Sesame-Seed cookies
3 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 cup sugar
2 teaspoons double-acting baking powder
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/2 stick (1/4 cup) unsalted butter, cut into bits and
softened
1/4 cup vegetable shortening, softened
2 large eggs, beaten lightly
1/4 cup milk
2 teaspoons vanilla
3/4 cup sesame seeds

In a bowl combine flour, sugar, baking powder, salt.

Blend in the butter and shortening until the mixture resembles
coarse meal.

Make a well in the center, add eggs, milk, and vanilla.

Combine the mixture, incorporating the liquid gradually,
until it forms a soft dough. Divide the dough into 36 pieces and form each
piece into a 3-inch log.

Roll the logs in the sesame seeds and bake them 1 inch
apart on lightly buttered baking sheets in at 375f for 20-25 minutes, or
until golden brown.

Let the cookies cool on racks.
